Fort Hill Performing Arts Center Unveils Don Scott Theatre Organ in a Dedication Concert
Canandaigua, NY - Fort Hill Performing Arts Center is excited to announce the inaugural Don Scott Memorial Theatre Organ Dedication performance. This landmark event will spotlight the exceptional artistry of our new house organist, Dennis James, complemented by a captivating silent film. This special performance serves as the kickoff for the Park Family Theatre Organ Concert series, a year-long musical journey scheduled to take place at Fort Hill.
The evening promises a unique blend of musical artistry, as Dennis James demonstrates the versatility of the newly installed organ, accompanied by the Marjorie B. Morris Steinway Concert Grand Piano. Adding a touch of unexpected magic to the performance, James will also play a rare and ethereal sounding Theremin.
The dedication concert will culminate with a special treat for film enthusiasts—a screening of a 1928 silent film, accompanied by the rich tones of the Don Scott Theatre Organ.
Honoring Don Scott (1925-2021): The installation of the Allen theater organ at Fort Hill Performing Arts Center pays tribute to Don Scott, a beloved figure in the Canandaigua Community. As the house organist at the Palace Theatre in Rochester, NY, and a frequent guest at the Auditorium Theatre on the RTOS mighty Wurlitzer. Don's legacy in the world of music is profound.
A Canandaigua resident and graduate of Canandaigua Academy, Don was not only a talented musician but also a dedicated piano and organ teacher, church organist for over 60 years, and a popular nightclub and restaurant organist. His influence on the local music scene was immense, and this dedication serves as a fitting tribute to his memory.
